Women and Traditional/ Folk Music Research Symposium takes place at NUI Galway this Saturday February 9th from 8.30am. The book, From Jigs to Jacobites, by Orfhlaith Ní Bhriain and Michael McCabe, will be launched at 1pm that day by Professor Gearóid Ó Tuathaigh.
The book explores 4000 years of Irish history through the lens of 40 traditional set dances. Set dances form a small but unique repertoire within Irish traditional music and dance. The tunes are unusually structured, making them challenging to play and to dance to. Many set dances also have associated songs and poems, making them a unique bridge between the traditional musician, dancer and singer, and between past and present. You can buy the book here: https://trad.dance/More info about the launch and symposium here@NUIGIrishStu@OrfhlaithNi
